In a part of a movie we see that an Afro-American couple being pulled over by two white cups because their SUV resembles the one that was carjacked. Matt Dillon one of the white cups uses this issue as an excuse to find out what the couples are up to and doing so, he harasses the black women (Thandie Newton). Later in the movie the same white cup has to rescue a woman who is trapped in her car which is the same woman who was harassed by the same cup. This part of the movie touches the soul of anyone who sees it and makes a great impact on their character and the prejudice which they have towards each other.
Another part of the movie we see that the shop owned by the Iranian family is rubbed and crashed. On the walls of the shop, they have accused them to be Arabs. This indicates that people in U.S think of all Middle-Eastern as Arabs and make a prejudice
Judgment on them. This part kind of invites people in having an open mind about each other and to learn more of each others cultures.
In the movie we see other examples such as the reaction of a Latino woman when she finds out that her black lover doesn't know the difference between a Mexican and a Puerto Rican and who doesn’t even care or the reaction of the rich couple when they see two black guys approaching them. The director Paul Haggis, gives us all these different types of examples with an incentive of making us aware of the prejudice that we hold towards each other due to the lack of cultural background that we from each other.
All in all having a variety of characters, the theme of the movie is around one topic which is race and how everyone tries to ignore the prejudices they have towards each other. Hollywood directors should make movies like Crash in order to reflect the reality of the life that we live in where there is a clash of cultures in our everyday life and most people have stereotypes against other cultures.
